The PLAY Hockey Community Member of the Month presented by MLT Aikins is Gerry Mawhinney!

Gerry's dedication and commitment as the Head Coach of the 2016 Manitoba Jr. Ice team has been outstanding. His passion for the game and his willingness to always go above and beyond for the kids to ensure they have the absolute best possible experience on and off the ice has been amazing. Gerry's exceptional organization skills and energy have been a true asset to the program.

Gerry shares his approach to coaching, saying, "I like to challenge kids to learn new skills or improve on others in creative and, most importantly, fun ways." This philosophy has not only helped his players grow their skills but also fostered a love for the game. 

"We have to remember these are kids, and we chose them for our team. Every player should get the opportunity to play in all situations and key moments. These are what build the best memories and a team play atmosphere," says Gerry. His commitment to giving every player a chance to shine has helped create a positive and inclusive environment for all.
