Breaking Ice and Records: Youth Hockey Shines in Western Canada
This year’s North American Hockey Classic was the biggest yet, with 208 teams and over 3,500 players hitting the ice from April 17 to 20 across 15 rinks in Manitoba. The tournament, one of the largest spring hockey events in Western Canada, packed in 538 games over three days of competition.
Male and Female players aged 7 to 14 battled it out in 30 divisions, with only 60 teams making it to the final championship games.
The energy throughout areas in Winnipeg was electric as fans cheered on their teams scoring last-minute goals, making game-winning saves, and leaving it all on the ice.
"What we're seeing here at the NAHC is something special - the best young talent in Western Canada coming together to compete at the highest level. This year's record-breaking turnout proves this tournament has become a true showcase for the next generation of hockey stars. When you watch these kids play with this much skill and passion, you can't help but feel optimistic about the future of our game." Said PLAY Hockey’s Rhys Van Kemenade.
After an action-packed weekend, the divisions crowned their champions on CWENCH Championship Sunday, April 20.
With next year’s event already in the works, the 2025 NAHC proved again why it’s a can’t-miss event for young hockey players across the region.
